TRADITIONAL THAI BODY WORKThe practice of traditional thai medicine is based on the existence of body energy. Breathing, eating, and drinking create energy which moves along body channels referred to as ‘sen’. Thai body work addresses ten primary ‘sen’, all of which connect the center of the body to the various sensory areas. There are thousands of additional energy channels corresponding to excretory points of the body; this includes pores and sweat glands.
Traditional chinese medicine is also based on energy channels called meridians. In chinese tradition, meridians correspond to body organs as opposed to the exit points in thai tradition. Traditional thai medicine teaches that disease or imbalance is present when energy flow is interrupted, or blocked. Thai body work employs stretching, chopping, hacking, squeezing, percussion and compression to release interrupted energy flow, thus returning health and harmony to the body. In traditional thai medicine, there are specific protocols for various ailments. Thai body work as delivered at ‘Washington Institute of Natural Medicine’ addresses blocked energy problems such as decreased flexibility, poor circulation and reduced mobility.
