DOCTOR OF NATUROPATHY DEGREE

EDUCATION DEPARTMENT

HOLISTIC HEALTH CARE

Anatomy and Physiology: 
Physical characteristics of the human body.  Placement of organs and their functions.

  • Heart and circulatory system anatomy, structure and function: movement of blood through the system, arteries, blood cells, and capillaries.
  • Muscular system structure and function: attachment, tissue types, types of movement, muscle cell fibers, facial expression, nerve connection, torso, arm, legs, and feet muscles.
  • Digestive system structure and function: processing and passage of food, mouth and esophagus, stomach, large and small intestines.
  • Endocrine system structure and function: glands, hormones, connection with emotion, energy, pituitary, male and female reproductive system, thyroid, pancreas, and spleen.
  • Skeletal system structure and function: body framework, protection, bones and their articulation, bone composition, skull, spine, ribs, arms, legs, pelvis, and knee.
  • Respiratory system structure and function: lungs, air movement, exchange of gasses, nose, trachea, and bronchi.  
  • Sensory organs and the nervous system structure and function: hair, skin, nails, eyes, ears, nose, tongue, and nerves.
  • Filtration systems structure and function: kidney, genitourinary, spleen, liver, and lymphatic.


Beginning Natural Care (Level 1 and 2):

  • Introduction to the foundations and principles of natural health care.
  • Theories presented on acupuncture, hypnosis, meridian systems, acupressure, and energy healing. 
  • Organ systems of the body and recommendation of natural remedies and treatments to strengthen these systems.
  • Introductory homeopathy, herbology, aromatherapy and acupressure.
  • Basic anatomy, physiology and medical terminology.
  • Introduction to basic client consultation procedures.
  • The pathology, natural treatment and current modalities used for the following common ailments:  anxiety, arthritis, constipation, depression, diarrhea, headaches, head colds, hemorrhoids, insomnia, menopause, and PMS.

Two client consultations are required at this level.

Intermediate Natural Care (level 3 and 4):

  • Pathology, natural treatments and current modalities used with more complex health conditions: Aging, alcohol withdrawal, allergies, athletes foot, bruises, burns, yeast infections, cystitis, varicose veins, and bad breath.
  • Intermediate homeopathy, botanicals, aromatherapy, healing touch and acupressure.
  • Biofield energy evaluation.
  • Anatomy, physiology and medical terminology as related to each ailment.

Two client consultations are required at this level.

Advanced Natural Care (level 5 and 6):

  • Pathology, natural treatments and current modalities used for clients with chronic disease conditions: hypoglycemia, indigestion, low immune systems, low thyroid, menopause, neuralgia, warts, ringing in the ears, prostate disorders, kidney disorders, liver disorders, and heart disorders.
  • Visual observation, palpation techniques (of abdomen), skin evaluation, tongue observation,    iridology, kinesiology, pulse study, pH testing of urine and saliva.
  • Advanced homeopathic care, botanical care, aromatherapeutic care and detoxification procedures.
  • Blood pressure taking, the consultation/exam procedure, and case taking (client history).
  • Anatomy, physiology and medical terminology as related to each ailment.

Two Client consultations are required at this level.

Treatment of Diseases (10 client cases):

  • Symptom documentation and natural remedy selection.
  • Evaluation of the meridian and energy systems.
  • Iris, tongue, pulse, hara (abdominal energy), muscle trigger point and pH evaluations.
  • Identification of treatment modality.
  • Performance of ten naturopathic exams and reports.
  • Anatomy, physiology and medical terminology as related to each ailment.

Doctorate Exam #1: Holistic Health Care: Anatomy, Physiology, Aromatherapy & Herbal Medicine

Doctorate Exam #2: Holistic Health Care: Homeopathy, Energy Medicine and Iridology

Doctorate Exam #3: Holistic Health Care: Meridians, TCM observations and TCM principles

 

ADVANCED HOLISTIC HEALTH CARE CLINICAL

Remedy Testing:

Each participant will refine their ability to use Kinesiology, Dowsing, Pendulum, Biofeedback. Testing remedies allows the practitioner to determine the best remedies among the myriad of choices, and gives the client confirmation of your choices.

 

Naturopathic Consultation Workshop:

Participants will work with client volunteers to refine skills doing client consultation including interview, iridology, hara, pulse, face analysis, tongue analysis, remedy testing and recommendations.

 

Client Interview Workshop:

Each participant will learn to conduct a holistic/homeopathic client interview.
Interviewing the client is a very important aspect of determining the client’s main issues and finding the sources of the illness. Building a good rapport with the client paves the way to the client’s ability to comply to your recommendations.
Participants will receive forms and checklist that help streamline the interview.

 

Iridology Workshop I:

Iridology can help the practitioner determine the following:
Constitution High Cholesterol Lymphatic congestion
Brain fog Toxic load Hereditary weakness
Colon congestion Physical stress Circulatory weakness
Inflammation Parasitic infection Diverticulitis
Weak organs Respiratory congestion and more …
Each participant will analyze case studies and client volunteers with a naturopathic doctor.
Learn how to use a digital camera and laptop to use in your practice.

 

Iridology Workshop II:

Participants will use the digital camera and laptop to analyze client volunteers’ iris with a naturopathic doctor’s supervision.

 

Remedies, Homeopathy, Supplements Workshop:

Each participant will receive a comprehensive review of products usually recommended by Naturopaths. Pros and cons of product inventory, web purchases, vitamin stores, etc.

 

Detoxification Workshop:

Participants will learn what type of detoxification to recommend, how often and which nutritional support to be added. Knowing when and how to detoxify is a very important part of holistic health care.

 

ADVANCED TCM CLINICAL

Traditional Chinese Observation I:

Each participant will receive more practical learning experience in Face, Pulse, Hara and Tongue study. These observations will enable the practitioner to determine which energy and organ systems are out of balance. Analyze case studies and client volunteers with a naturopathic doctor. Learn how to use a digital camera and laptop to use in your practice.

 

Traditional Chinese Observation II:

Participant will have hands-on experience working with client volunteers while supervised by a naturopathic doctor. This level includes nail analysis.

Aromatherapy and Body Work I:

Each participant will be able to practice using aromatherapy with acupressure for physical issues, relieving stress and emotional healing. Client volunteers will work with participants while supervised by a naturopathic doctor.

 

Aromatherapy and Body Work II:

The focus of this workshop is developing the practitioners’ skill in finding acupressure points and determining the best essential oil to use for each ailment.

HOMEOPATHY

Homeopathy I and II:

  • Fundamentals of homeopathy, history, and dilutions.
  • Dilutions used to treat a variety of health care problems.
  • Anatomy, physiology and medical terminology as related to each ailment.

 

Homeopathy III (Clinical Workshop):

Each participant will receive a comprehensive review of homeopathic products usually recommended by Naturopaths. Pros and cons of product inventory, web purchases, vitamin stores, etc.

Doctorate Exam #4: Homeopathy

HERBOLOGY

Herbology I and II:

  • Basic herbology in a systems approach.
  • The study of the fundamental principles involved in the use of herbs to promote health.
  • Anatomy, physiology and medical terminology as related to each ailment.

 

Herbology III (Clinical Workshop):

Each participant will receive a comprehensive review of herbal products usually recommended by Naturopaths. Pros and cons of product inventory, web purchases, vitamin stores, etc.

ACUPRESSURE

Acupressure I and II:

  • Oriental meridian systems and how touch affects those systems
  • Pressure application by the hands and fingers.  
  • Acupressure methods and the balance of the flow of energy in the body.
  • Anatomy, physiology and medical terminology as related to each meridian.

 

Acupressure III (Clinical Workshop):

The participants will practice the acupressure techniques in a clinical setting.

HOLISCTIC NUTRITION

Holistic Nutrition 1:

  • See Anatomy and Physiology in the Holistic Health care section.

Foods for Health:

  • How the components of foods compliment the use of other natural health care modalities. 
  • Benefits to food when assisting the client in promoting optimum health.
  • Anatomy, physiology and medical terminology as related to each ailment.

Supplements for Health:

  • Nutritional information that compliments the use of herbs when caring for clients.
  • Benefits of various vitamins, supplements and mineral in health care.
  • Supplementation to the diet promoting faster healing for the client.
  • Anatomy, physiology and medical terminology as related to each ailment.

 

Holistic Nutrition IV: Diet & Nutrition – Clinical Case Studies

This level prepares students to work with clients. There are preparation made by each student; designing of an intake form, interview questions, and nutrition plans. The students, along with the instructor meet clients and develop a plan based on the interview. The student will conduct a follow up with the client to present their plan with the instructor.

ADVANCED HOLISTIC NUTRITION CLINICAL

Food for Healing Workshop I:

The focus of this workshop is to learn the foods to recommend to clients suffering from cancer and other critical immune issues.

 

Food for Healing Workshop II:

The focus of this workshop is to learn how to teach clients where and how to shop for healthy foods. Includes grocery stores, health food stores, fast food and other restaurants.

 

Joy of Eating Workshop:

The focus of this workshop is to learn techniques or tips to pass on to clients to help them develop good eating habits, easy meal planning and preparation.

 

HOLISTIC LABORATORY

Holistic Laboratory I:

This course will teach the proper procedures of the CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment) waived laboratory tests approved by the Federal Government.

Upon completion of this course the practitioner will be able to use test kits to determine the presence of various substances in the client’s system, such as glucose, cholesterol, ph balance, protein, leukocytes and ketones.

The student will learn how to interpret the results of the test and learn the various remedies and food to recommend in order to assist the client back to a balanced and healthy system.

 

Holistic Laboratory II:

This course is an advanced level of laboratory testing that will teach the proper procedures of the CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment) waived laboratory tests approved by the Federal Government. Under the CLIA certificate of Waiver the Lab technician is permitted to collect specimens that can be sent out to laboratories for advanced specialty testing. The course will also include the proper collection of these specimens and information about tests that can be sent out.

The following tests will be covered:

  • Saliva tests for hormones
  • Urine tests for hormones
  • Additional approaches to urine and saliva pH testing and analysis
  • Liver clearance functional testing

MIND-BODY (VISUALIZATION)

Mind Body Medicine:

  • Promoting positive thought in the client.
  • Understanding the client psychological outlook.
  • Basic techniques in communication, relaxation, guided imagery and visualization.

 

Visualization Workshop I:

Visualization and other Mind/Body Medicine techniques are useful in helping the practitioner assist the client to change habits, relieve panic attacks, phobias and relieve stress. Each participant will be able to practice more visualization techniques.
Client volunteers will work with participants while supervised by a naturopathic doctor.

 

Visualization Workshop II:

The focus of this workshop is to learn how to teach your client to meditate and encourage them to make it a part of their daily routine.

PHILOSOPHY

Naturopathic Philosophy:

The objective of this course is to expose the students to the theories, ideas and principles of Naturopathy as utilized in the practice of Naturopathic Medicine.  At the conclusion of this course the student will be able to iterate the basic fundamentals of naturopathic philosophy, answer the “naturopathic question”, and utilize naturopathic philosophy in their life as a guide.

This course of instruction covers the following:

  • Development of Naturopathic philosophy
  • Catechism of Natural Medicine
  • The Naturopathic Question
  • Underlying theories of practice and evaluation
  • Scope of Practice
  • Basic idea of Naturopathic ethics
